Had the pleasure of following a tip on a new pop-punk band that's starting to make some online waves: namely, Bright and Early, a Philly quintet with their sights set on honest good old-fashioned rock and roll. They caught my ear after I heard "Something Personal," a track with a bunch of hilarious and well-spoken homages to the pop-punk scene over the last several years. Midtown crush aside, these guys rock like Motion City Soundtrack with a little twinge of Gatsby's American Dream chord styling and melodies.
B&E are unsigned right now, but I think they'll garner some label interest soon if they play their cards right. Lyrically, the music is straight-forward and well done. They're pretty typical pop-punk musically, but they have a cohesiveness that gets the job done. Plenty of hooks give B&E and undeniable radio appeal, and they'll definitely get some airplay with label backing.
Anyway, these guys are busting onto the scene shortly with their new EP, which is yet untitled as far as I can tell. Check out "Something Personal," the aforementioned homage track, below.
"All the glamour kills teens and tweet queens of NYC / I know you're hotter than me."
