A band that I'd forgotten about for a couple of years recently resurfaced on my music radar, the illustrious and well-respected Jughead's Revenge. The group disbanded in 2001 and a lawsuit filed by Archie Comics was filed soon thereafter. I was pretty certain we'd seen the last of these fellas, but they're back in all their delectable punk glory, talking a reunion show and some possible new material.
This is punk that isn't afraid to span from the grimiest hardcore to the catchiest popcore, but their songs always stayed consistently hard-hitting and relevant. The group's final release, Pearly Gates, was a fond farewell, building off of fantastic predecessors like Just Joined and Image Is Everything. All-in-all, this is a punk band that could go pound-for-pound with any other group on the scene today.
A little extra dose of good news: Jughead's Revenge has made the band's entire discography available for free download on the band's website. So if you haven't heard these guys, I highly suggest heading over and downloading some free tunes. Or, if you'd like to preview them here, you may do so. Word.
